Recent Form:

TJs have enjoyed a brilliant return to National One and currently sit sixth in the standings – albeit their win 36-31 home success against Dings Crusaders last Saturday was only their first back-to-back triumph this term.

An extraordinary record saw them defeat Rosslyn Park (19-12) at The Rock before Christmas, a 26-24 home reverse to Bishop’s Stortford precipitating that success.

In reverse order, the first 12 weeks read W-L-L-W-L-W-L-W-L-W-L-W.

Going backwards from Round 12, these were Clifton (28-12, away win); Leeds Tykes (38-31, home loss); Sale FC (33-26, a, l); Sedgley Park (56-0, h, w); Rotherham Titans (38-28, a, l); Plymouth Albion (35-26, h, w).

And in the opening six outings: Blackheath (40-0, a, l); Birmingham Moseley (31-17, h, w); Rams (40-19, a, l); Dings Crusaders (34-21, a, w); Rosslyn Park (29-22, h, l); Leicester Lions (46-14, a, w).

Players to Watch:

Bobby Bratton – Tight-head prop is closing in on a century of caps having returned to TJs for a third time ahead of their National Two East title-winning campaign last term.

A Bill Beaumont County Championship victor with Kent last summer, Bratton played 10 times for Tonbridge in the 2017/18 season before a short spell in National One with Old Elthamians in the Covid-shortened 2019/20 stanza.

A return to The Slade prompted a move to Champ side Doncaster Knights for the early part of 2023, the front row moving onto win the Scottish Super Series with Watsonians.

His third spell at TJs has seen him play a remarkable ever-present 41 games on the spin, securing silverware last term before a maiden National One hat-trick against Leeds Tykes back in November.

Connor Lloyd – Scrum-half is TJs joint top try-scorer (eight) and leading points-gatherer (105) this term, having grabbed a treble versus Birmingham Moseley.

Set for a 100th National League appearance on Saturday, he scored in his third Leeds Tykes appearance at Rams back in September 2021, before spending two seasons at Bishop’s Stortford following the Yorkshiremen’s relegation.

A move to Kent prompted a terrific return of 17 tries.

Curtis Barnes – Prolific wing has a phenomenal try-scoring record in National League rugby, having racked up a sensational 112 scores in 116 appearances.

The first 79 came in 84 for Worthing, but the speedster has remarkably upped the ante since switching to TJs at the start of last season, 33 in 32 matches including a joint-top eight this term.

This included a treble versus Sedgley Park in November.
