NATIONAL ONE ROUND-UP – WEEK 15

PLYMOUTH Albion took advantage of the Rotherham Titans-Clifton postponement to hit the top-of-the-table for the first time this season.

Ryan Lamb’s men blasted past Bishop’s Stortford 39-17 thanks to a blistering first-half display at The Brickfields.

Iwan Jenkins converted two Jenson Boughton tries to put the Devonians in charge before Tom Hitchcock touched down for the visitors.

But Bobby Wigginton and Ben Moa then went over, two more Jenkins kicks making it 28-5 at the break.

Wigginton doubled up to extend the lead before Stortford hit back through Ollie Jones and Tristan Smith, Chris Bolton adding to the former.

That was as good as it got for Bishop’s though, two Jenkins penalties completing the scoring.

Harding’s fifth hat-trick sends Club second

Blackheath are up to second following a 52-19 home success against bottom side Leicester Lions.

The game was as good as done inside 30 minutes as Club surged 26-0 up, Matt Dalrymple on target three times after Raff Hollister went over and Billy Harding grabbed a fifth hat-trick of the season.

The Blackheath skipper now has a remarkable 29 tries to date.

Lions got on the board through Jake Sterland and Monty Loggenberg either side of the interval, Theo Mannion’s conversion making it 26-12.

But the hosts reasserted themselves as Jake Hennessey bagged a brace, Dalrymple with two more points.

Aaron Dawson grabbed a seven-pointer for Leicester, but the Londoners passed 50 with Archie Holland and Luke Pollock doing the same late on.

TJs edge Dings thriller

Tonbridge Juddians climbed to sixth with their first back-to-back wins of the season, a 36-31 success at home to Dings Crusaders.

Sam Evans converted Fin Cunnison and Jimmy Staples tries for 14-0 before the visitors levelled at the end of the first quarter, Raff Weston on target after Matt Bowler and Harry Rowson dotted down.

Bowler’s second nudged the Bristolians ahead, but Evans ensured TJs regained a half-time lead after Oscar Waite crossed.

Bobby Bratton and Evans made it 28-19 before Omar Ly reduced the arrears, ex-Ram Vince Everitt restoring the hosts’ nine-point lead.

Dings set-up a grandstand finish as Weston added to a Victor Worsnip try, but it was not enough as Evans allayed home nerves with a penalty two minutes from time.

The victory helped TJs leapfrog Rams into sixth following the Berkshire side’s 18-12 home defeat to Sale FC.

Aside from the Rotherham postponement, the games between Birmingham Moseley and Rosslyn Park, and Sedgley Park and Leeds Tykes, were also victims of the weather.
