MATCH PREVIEW: PHYSICALITY KEY AGAINST MOSELEY

DIRECTOR of Rugby Seb Reynolds is expecting another epic clash with Birmingham Moseley when the Midlanders arrive at Old Bath Road tomorrow (3pm).

The visitors have endured a tricky start to the National One season with a sole victory against Leicester Lions in their opening five games, but retain a squad full of top-level experience.

And Seb said: “They’ve got so much quality and are a very physical side. Their set-piece is going well, and while they’ve not had the start they would have wanted, they’ll get going at some point.

“It’s so early in the season and our focus is to make sure we play as well as we can to give ourselves a chance in what will be a good contest.”

He added: “I’ve been very pleased with the start to the season.

“The players have had so many different experiences – Sale in the rain, tricky conditions at Leeds, and then a couple in the sunshine – but the guys have learnt a lot. It’s been invaluable.”

Half century up for prop Paddy

Rams make four changes to the side which started at Leeds, Paddy Harris regaining the loose-head prop slot on his 50th appearance, Connor Stapley fit-again in the second row and Charlie Robson and Luke Graham returning on the wings.

Praising Paddy on his half century, Seb beamed: “He was a very good youngster (at Thatcham) and I remember speaking to Max (Hayman) who said he used to tear things up in the minis and juniors, then Academy rugby.

“He went off to Cambridge University to do his degree, then joined us and started in the third team, but he’s just worked his way up.

“He’s done everything we’ve ever asked of him, a great guy and extremely coachable. I congratulate him on his 50th and wish him all the best.”

On the other changes, Seb continued: “Connor’s recovered from the mark on his leg, an infection, and he’s looked good this week.

“He’s also got back quicker than his brother used to, and we’re happy to have him back!

“Hopefully Luke will avoid any late-night snacks on Friday – it was unfortunate to have him and George (Breese) sick last week – but Poz (Tomek Pozniak) and Ryan (Lomas) did superbly coming in last minute.

“Tomorrow for Luke, along with Charlie, it’s two very exciting guys to bring in. Hopefully they can have good games.”

‘Hopefully a big crowd and fantastic atmosphere’

With the pre-match lunch sold out and tickets selling faster than the two previous home games, a bumper crowd is expected leaving the DoR buzzing.

Seb ended: “It always takes a bit of time to get into the season. Early on kids are back at school, families are getting back into the rhythm of things, but come October – the cricket season’s finished – and everyone’s into rugby.

“Birmingham always bring loads of supporters so hopefully we have a big crowd, and it creates a fantastic atmosphere for both sets of players.”
