FOUR RAMS MENTIONED IN RUGBY PAPER TEAM OF SEASON CHOICES

FOUR Rams players received mentions as The Rugby Paper picked its National One Team of the Season.

Reporters from clubs across the division nominated their top performers, with TRP’s Ben Jaycock then compiling the side.

Three of the Rams lauded came in the pack, with stalwart James Baker ‘remaining highly regarded’ as he gets set for a 23rd campaign with the club next term.

Plymouth Albion’s Dan Pullinger earned the tight-head jersey pick.

Rotherham Titans prop Alastair Donkor and Blackheath’s record-breaking hooker Billy Harding completed the front row.

The latter scored in every game for a total of 48 tries.

Harry Stone was the second Ram to feature after delivering several ‘stand-out performances.’

But Plymouth’s Freddie Stevenson and Blackheath’s line-out guru Ed Scragg were the chosen second rows.

Willo Bicknell’s fine debut season was not enough to take the No. 8 shirt, though he was ‘described as ‘one of the stand-outs’ in the position.

The Zambian scored 10 tries in 25 games for Rams, but Albion’s Ben Moa was selected.

John Okafor from champions Rotherham and Club’s Noah Sloot were the flankers.

Out wide, Axel Kalling-Smith’s 13 tries in 22 outings meant he ‘caught the eye’ on the left wing, but the spot went to Rosslyn Park’s Luke Mehson.

He finished as second top marksman in the division with 26.

Also in the back three were Titans pair Isaac Shaw and Jackson Barling.

Their teammate, and the top point-scorer in National One for the second straight year, Lloyd Hayes, was at 13.

Joining him in midfield was Bishop’s Stortford’s Tom Hitchcock.

And the side was rounded out by Plymouth half-backs Jack Oulton and Iwan Jenkins.

The Rugby Paper’s National One Team of the Season:

(15-9, 1-8) Shaw, Barling, Hayes (all Rotherham Titans), Hitchcock (Bishop’s Stortford), Mehson (Rosslyn Park), Jenkins, Oulton (both Plymouth); Donkor (Rotherham), Harding (Blackheath), Pullinger, Stevenson (both Plymouth), Scragg (Blackheath), Okafor (Rotherham), Sloot (Blackheat), Mo’a (Plymouth)
