REACTION: ‘CROWD HELPED US OVER THE LINE’r

SEB Reynolds praised the home support as Rams’ late charge helped them past Clifton 45-25.

First-half tries from Zach Clow, Axel Kalling-Smith and Max Hayman (two) had given the hosts a 24-10 half-time lead before things went wrong.

With Ollie Stirling having crossed in the first half, Zak Hamid and Harry Johnson followed suit for the Bristolians, James McKinney’s boot nudging them a point in front.

But Rams pulled things out the fire late on, Hayman completing his hat-trick before Harry Stone and Clow finished the job.

And despite the smallest crowd of the campaign to date (614), Seb was grateful for the noise they created in the latter stages.

He said: “The support was very important for the side.

“It looked like we might extend away after the break, which might have meant a big win but perhaps a flat afternoon.

“As it was, we went behind – you don’t want to do that – but it brought the crowd back into it and they were great at the finish.”

‘Again things centre around consistency’

The DoR continued: “It was a good game. We made a decent start, but maybe didn’t take full advantage.

“We pulled away from them, then they came back, we got away again and then they’re in front.

“But in the end, we got it together and got far enough ahead there wasn’t enough time for them to come back again!”

Commenting on falling behind, Seb revealed: “We lost our discipline, gave them field position and allowed them back in.

“But I wasn’t too concerned because I’d seen what we could produce.

“I knew if we could wrestle back control, retain possession and lift the tempo the win was there, and we got it.

“I thought (scrum-half) Ollie Hodgson was very good with that, and Aaron Tull was exceptional.

“He added to the back row with his handling and physicality.”

He continued: “The side is in its infancy, but again things centre around consistency.

“The positives are there was some very good stuff and there’s a load of talent in the team.

“But it’s something to sort out – we need to bridge the gap between the inconsistent moments.

“There was lots I was pleased with, but lots to work on.”
