EXCEPTIONAL ELLIS RECEIVES CENTURION CAP

ELLIS Jones was honoured with his centurion’s cap following Rams’ 45-25 National One victory against Clifton.

The Welsh centre, who came agonisingly close to scoring in Clubhouse Corner during the first quarter, collected the memorabilia from Chairman Andy Lynch after the game.

Having played for Wales Under 16s and Newport-Gwent Dragons U18s, Ellis made his Rams debut while still at Reading University.

And it was a perfect start as he touched down at Canterbury in December 2017.

Four more tries followed in seven games including a hat-trick against Henley Hawks in the final game of the season.

National Two title winner

Ellis crossed five times in 22 outings as Rams claimed the National Two South title the following season.

He touched down in the club’s first Level Three game at victory, though his campaign was halted through injury after eight matches.

Covid shortened the campaign and cancelled the next, but Ellis was back for 2021/22, reaching his 50th cap against Plymouth Albion.

However, another knock forced him out for the remainder of the season after getting to his half century.

Rams edged out to National One silverware by the barest of margins next term, with Ellis enjoying his best try-scoring campaign with seven in 21 appearances.

Three in 17 came in 2023/24, but a knee injury on the opening day against Darlington Mowden Park ruled him out of the rest of the following season.

However, he scored his 25th first-team try at Dings before reaching his 100 caps against another Bristol side on Saturday.

‘Time has flown by since debut’

Commenting on what the achievement means, Ellis said: “I’m extremely glad to reach the milestone, even if it’s taken a little bit longer than I might have hoped!

“I’ve had a few injuries, but it’s flown by since my debut eight years ago.

“Missing out last season, it’s been nice to have all the new faces around and it’s been a new challenge.

“We’ve played some very good rugby and there’s still lots to play for this – there are a few scalps we want to take.

“I’m still enjoying it and being part of the group.”

*Congratulations Ellis from all the Ramily!
