MATCH PREVIEW: ‘IT’S ALL TO PLAY FOR’

‘IT’S all to play for’ according to Director of Rugby Seb Reynolds when Rosslyn Park arrive for tomorrow’s National One clash at Old Bath Road (3pm).

Two of the pre-season promotion hopefuls have endured a sticky start to the season, both amassing six points from their opening three games.

And in what is always a blockbuster clash, Seb hopes his side can turn promise into a match-winning performance.

He explained: “We’ve played them for a long time, but I still obviously remember the first game which was such an event (Rams scored two tries in the last four minutes to win 27-20).

“The rivalry has built over the years and towards the end of last season, they were gunning for a first victory here and to be honest, with two sides not having anything to play for, they probably wanted it more than us.

Park won that encounter 36-19 last April.

“Now both teams have shown a bit of indifferent form and it’s all to play for.

“Everyone’s hungry for it and it should be a cracking contest.”

Cozens comes in, Sedgwick also on debut

Rams make four changes to the side narrowly beaten 34-31 by Bishop’s Stortford last time out, with Mikey Duda and Mike Cooke in at open-side flanker and full back respectively.

Two debutants come in with Ryan Cozens in the second row and Oli Sedgwick on the wing.

Commenting on the latter duo, Seb said: “Ryan’s been fantastic since he joined us in the summer.

“He was brilliant in pre-season before taking a little knock and after a month away (with Canada at the Pacific Nations Cup), it’s great to get him into the engine room alongside Ollie Stirling.

“Sedgey has also had a strong pre-season, he’s been fighting for his opportunity, and he gets it this weekend.”

Free-flowing Rosslyn are one of the league’s most entertaining sides and Seb warned: “We’ve got to watch out for their wide players.

“Luke Mehson (five tries in three games) has started strongly again and with the summer we’ve had, every track is like their 4G!

“It’s good for their style of rugby, but will make for an interesting game as we try and stop them.”

Fond memories of OBR cauldron

The atmosphere when Rams beat tomorrow’s opponents in November 2019 was one of the loudest in OBR history, and the DoR is keen for a similar environment.

He ended: “The fans can play a part tomorrow. There’s a storyline now with us integrating a lot of new faces – which is creating excitement – and the group are so hungry to produce performances and results.

“They’ve got to go out and put something on display for everyone supporting.”
