RAMS Centaurs (3rd XV) had their two-match winning streak halted as they slipped to a 19-17 loss at Marlow 2nd XV.
The visitors started well and hit the front on 10 minutes as Will Rayner crossed the whitewash, Cameron George adding the extras.
Marlow replied at the start of the second quarter as Ale Fifita’s strong carry saw the inside centre make it over the line, the conversion successful to leave the two sides level.
There were no further scores before half-time and it was the Mighty Cents who regained the advantage on 45 minutes thanks to prop Brad Killick.
George was again on target from the tee, but some nice handling from the hosts saw them grab a second through wing Ollie Kemp, his fellow flyer Matt Saunders and Miles Noble involved in the build-up.
However, a George penalty nudged Rams five points clear, only for Marlow to hit the front for the first time as a clever cross-field kick was hoovered up by Saunders for what would prove to be the decisive converted score with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.
Defeat saw Marlow leapfrog the Centaurs into sixth place in the Counties Two Tribute Berks, Bucks & Oxon Two South table, albeit Rams remain level on points and have a game in hand.
Jack Gaylor’s side are the main event at Old Bath Road this Saturday when they host Newbury 2nd XV (kick-off TBC).
