Teenager Theo scores twice under Friday Night Lights!

TEENAGER Theo Pett-Ridge was at the double, but it was not enough to prevent Rams Centaurs (3rd XV) from slipping to a 24-14 defeat under the Friday Night Lights at Maidenhead 2nd XV.

In their opening Counties Two Tribute Berks, Bucks & Oxon South game of the season, new coach Jack Gaylor blended a mix of seasoned Mighty Cents, club legends – all-time first-team top league try-scorer Jez Flynn starting at scrum-half and fellow double-centurion starter Stevie Bryant in the No. 13 jersey – with several Under 20s, in a side which bodes well for the campaign ahead.

And despite falling behind to a Tom Doherty try, added to by Scott Rudge, the visitors levelled matters as Pett-Ridge – joined in the squad by two more of last year’s title-winning Colts team, Paddy Brown and Ollie Ireland – crossed the whitewash before Cam George slotted the extras.

Dan Barber and Maids’ skipper James Johnstone added scores converted by Eliot Frisby to push the hosts in front, Rudge also landing a penalty for 24-7.

Rams had a try disallowed and were also held up over the line, but they ended by scoring the try of the night as Pett-Ridge finished a flowing move before knocking over the kick.

Despite defeat, Gaylor took plenty of positives from the performance, highlighting the adult debut of two-try Pett-Ridge along with a typically outstanding defensive effort from Bryant.

The Centaurs host Marlow 2s on Saturday.
