Season Review

Finally back with a full campaign, thankfully we had only lost three boys at the start of the season and then two more afterwards, while on the plus side, we welcomed seven new players to Old Bath Road.

We used a total of 38 boys, but due to a higher level of non-availabilities (non rugby related injuries, Covid absences and school exams), numbers at training and matches varied greatly.

Training was lead by Danny Batty, something the boys really enjoyed and which really helped them come along.

On the playing front, we entered two teams in the OBB leagues:

In Division One we finished sixth out of eight (1-0-6)
In Division Three we finished second out of seven (5-0-1)

Due to availability, we ended up playing mixed teams in all fixtures, and sadly we had to forfeit one away league game due to a lack of forwards.

We made every effort for games to go ahead and on occasions we played 13 a side, have borrowed players and we have lent players.

In addition to leagues fixtures, we played friendlies and enjoyed the tour to Taunton prior to Rams National One fixture - after playing their U16s on the Saturday we played a triangular fixture against Cheddar Valley and Bath Rugby the following day.

We finished the season on a high with good wins against Maidenhead, Bracknell, Newbury, Witney and High Wycombe until we hosted a very strong touring team in Samuel Whitbread school.

We concluded our fixtures with a mixed U16/U17 game and end-of-season BBQ.

Thanks to Ade who took over a lot of the team management side during the season, Paul for match day support and to Chris and Robin for officiating when no referees where available.

Now the boys move up to Colts, I hope up to 30 boys will continue their rugby journey with Rams.

From my side, big thanks to all the boys and girls I have coached during the last 10-11 years, to the parents for the their backing on and off the pitch as well as the club coaches who have helped over recent years.

I look forward to watching Theo with the Colts, so Kerry, Tich and Ollie please look after the boys as they are a very special bunch of players.
