Sun Shines on the Rams Under 10’s
A Redingensians RAMS under 10’s squad once again travelled to Burnham on Sea and swept aside all opposition in what turned out to be a remarkable weekend of rugby.
The team ;-Cameron George, Mason Archer, Alex Enright, Rory Hunt, Joe Mullins, Stuart Hoare, Emil Mchaughey, Matthew Lewis, James Knight, Hector Suter and George Cubitt played 3 league games, toping pool A on the first day beating Old Ruts Tigers 6-0, Dartfordians lions 2-0 and 99 Problems, hooking aint one 6-0.
Boyd by the success on day one, the team continued to play free flowing rugby on day 2 beating Bromley Wasps 6-0, and Buckingham 6-0 on their route to a well deserved semi final against Maidenhead Lions. Try scorers so far were Mason Archer, Alex Enright, Rory Hunt, Matthew Lewis, Joe Mullins and Emil McCaughey.
The Semi-final was a nervous affair however after a shaky start the lads settled, moved the ball, got numbers in support and began to out ruck, out maul and control things before a break away Mason Archer try settled their nerves on half time. An unfortunately injury to a Rams player, James Knight, following a high tackle, meant the match had to be moved whilst our RAM was treated, happily making a full recovery but playing no further part in the contest..
With the game restarted the RAMS, fired by the injury to their friend, upped their game pressing on ever closer to the opposition try line. Maidenhead using their advantage in size bravely defended before Alex Enright receiving a ball at pace, calved a hole in the Maidenhead defence scoring and settling the match once and for all.
The scene had been set, old scores would be settled, it all came down to this one game, The eagerly anticipated final against Maidenhead Dragons. RAMS had played and won every game leading up to this match so too had Maidenhead Dragons. The RAMS had not conceded a single try and Maidenhead only 1, it would be close, it would be tense it would be epic….And so it was,
Parents, spectators and coaches waited with nervous anticipation for the whistle to blow and the contest to begin. And so it was, with a shrill blast from his whistle the game commence .
The Rams team captained by Cameron George raised their game, putting Maidenhead under pressure from the off, forcing them onto the back foot and forcing the error. We had the ball, they took the opportunity and used their confidence, their ability and their intelligence to produce what turned out to be their best performance all season. They out played, out tackled, out passed and out witted Maidenhead in all areas. A hat trick from Alex Enright and 2 trys from Mason Archer broke Maidenheads heart and so the match was settled, RAMS 5- Maidenhead 0. The boys had done it.
Rounding off what was already a fantastic weekend was the award of under 10’s player of the festival to our own Alex Enright. Well Done Alex and Well done everyone else, a fantastic team performance from a fantastic team.
A clean sweep by the Mighty RAMS Under 10’s, Cup Winners, no trys conceded and under 10’s Player of the festival, a Festival first and a festival record.
