TEAM NEWS: HONEY AND ATKINS SET FOR DEBUTS

Rich Ashton11 Aug 2023 - 16:30

Summer signings to start against Aberavon!

FRASER Honey and Ben Atkins will make their Rams’ debuts in today’s home clash with Welsh Premiership side Aberavon (3.30pm).

Fly-half Honey starts outside captain Ollie Cole, with plenty of National One experience in a Reds’ centre combination of Drew Humberstone and Connor Hayhow.

Last year’s Captain’s Player of the Season, Axel-Kalling-Smith, is on the left wing, while Jak Rossiter – who was picked in the National League Rugby Team of the Year – starts on the other flank.

Fresh from making his loan deal from London Scottish permanent, Zach Clow completes the three-quarters at full-back.

Atkins, meanwhile, starts on the blind-side as he makes his first appearance after joining from London Irish, Vince Everitt on the other flank and the dynamic Mike Hoyt at No. 8.

Paddy Harris – who did well on debut against Cinderford in the final first XV home game of last season – is joined by hooker Spencer Hayhow and Paul Englezos in the front row.

Another Ram to get the nod in the Team of the Season, Dan Swain, is joined in the second row by Liam Goodison.

A strong-looking bench includes last term’s second top-scorer, hooker Max Hayman, along with versatile props Ryan Lomas and Sean McDonnell-Roberts, both capable of covering both sides of the scrum.

The third player picked by the National League, James McRae, provides back row cover along with Mikey Duda, Josh Collis and Ross Crame, the latter also featuring in the second row last season.

Ollie Monye and Rowan Grundy are available at scrum and fly-half respectively, with Tom Humberstone also able to play at either 10 or inside centre.

Karl Quartey brings strong ball-carrying qualities in midfield, with wing Sam Rennell rounding out the 27-man squad.
