The versatile three-quarter has moved locally following a spell in Scotland.
And following a chat with ex-Ram and fellow military man Solodrau Radianirova, Matt is enjoying life in Berkshire.
He said: “Solo explained what a wonderful club Rams is and how everyone is so welcoming and together.
“Pete (Austin) said the same and they’ve been absolutely right from the moment I arrived.
“The facilities are second to none, there’s a great ambition to move the club forward and I’m delighted to be here.”
Regular for Red Shirts
The 28-year-old started both Inter-Services Championship games earlier in the year, with Army finishing runners-up.
They were edged out 41-36 by Royal Navy at Twickenham but beat RAF 38-20 at Gloucester’s Kingsholm Stadium.
Matt was full back for both games but is set to start at outside centre in Wales.
Describing his game, he said: “I like to think of myself as a strong ball carrier, but also with decent hands and creativity.
“I enjoy the physicality and can’t wait to get stuck in.”
‘There’s a great feeling around the place’
Now standing 6ft and weighing 96kg, Matt grew up on a farm in Cornwall and took up rugby as a 13-year-old at Helston RFC.
He progressed to Truro College and the Exeter Chiefs development programme, before studying human bioscience at the city’s University.
Matt was a BUCS Super Rugby title-winner before playing for National One new boys Camborne.
Joining the Army saw him move to Inverness where he most recently played for Highland, but back down south, he revealed his hobbies and goals for the season.
“Growing up on a farm I’ve always loved the outdoors,” he said.
“I’m also into tennis and almost any team sport – I find it very brilliant.
“And one of the things I’ve most enjoyed is meeting new people at Rams.
“There’s a great feeling around the place, everyone is working hard and I’m pushing to get as much action as possible.
“I’m also very excited to meet the supporters who I’ve heard a lot about. They are so important to any club.
If I get the chance to play in front of them I’ll be delighted.”
