RAMS have been named the RFU Level Three and Four Team of the Month for February following a perfect four wins from four.
Seb Reynolds' side enjoyed a superb month with a 43-21 success at Darlington Mowden Park, the 50-31 Friday Night Lights home win against Chinnor – featuring THAT James Baker break which set-up Ollie Cole’s National League Try of the Week winner – a 43-10 home triumph versus Rosslyn Park and most recently the comeback 24-21 away victory at Birmingham Moseley.
It meant Rams took a perfect 20 league points from 20, while scoring an impressive 26 tries.
Max Hayman and Axel Kalling-Smith led the way with five apiece, while the side racked up 160 points in the four matches, conceding 83 for a monthly points difference of +77.
Reflecting on each game, Seb previously said: “At Darlington we scored four tries in seven minutes which was very impressive, but it was nice going there with a magnificent stadium, good atmosphere, a good surface to play on and both teams wanting to play rugby – the first half-hour produced a roller-coaster of a game.
“Overall, it was a really good performance and we probably played some of our best go-forward rugby of the season in patches.
“Against Chinnor there was a real buzz around the game and the players deserved it because of the graft they put in every week. The crowd were fantastic.”
After the Rosslyn Park victory, Seb explained: “It was a slow burner, but the party built towards the end, and that shows it was a different sort of game to anything else we’ve had.
“At one point when we were getting scrum penalties, our front row was Wallingford, Newbury and Maidenhead – and that’s what we want to do here.
“We want to represent the area as best we can – they’re Rams now, but they’ve come from local clubs and are playing for the whole area in National One against professional players. They’re a credit.”
And finally, after Birmingham, he acknowledged: “It was a tense fixture – probably not the prettiest – but with all that being said, we came through it very well.”
