PETE AND SAM FACE OFF IN ARMY-RAF CLASH

RAMS’ Servicemen Pete Austin and Sam Boxhall will go head-to-head when British Army take on Royal Air Force at Gloucester’s Kingsholm Stadium this afternoon.

Hooker Pete skippers the Red Shirts on the back of his debut season at Old Bath Road.

The Army leader scored two tries against Bishop’s Stortford, on debut, and Leicester Lions, starting five times.

RAF scrum-half Sam, meanwhile, featured in 10 games, making three starts and coming off the bench on seven occasions.

Since joining the Berkshire Boys in the latter half of the 2024/25 campaign, he now has 14 caps with a try in the 30-19 home victory against his former club Rotherham Titans last term.

While Royal Navy have already secured the Inter-Services Championship, there are bragging rights to play for.

Navy beat RAF 47-16 at Northampton’s Franklin’s Gardens, before the Dark Blues took down Army 41-36 at Twickenham a fortnight ago.

The latter was a pulsating affair in which Pete scored to help his side launch a brave fightback.

But having rectified a 21-5 deficit to level matters at 36-36, they shipped a 77th-minute match-winner.

Army won last year’s contest 38-31 in an epic affair.
