CENTURION-ELECT Ollie Cole is looking forward to the ‘special’ moment when he collects his 100th cap this afternoon.
The former Forest School alumni has become one of the top scrum-halves in National One, and commenting on the achievement, he said: “It’s special. I joined when I was 17 so to go with the club has been so nice, and especially this season which has obviously been great.”
Making his debut back on the opening day of the 2016/17 season at home to Taunton Titans, it took him more than seven months to collect a second cap but said the memories had got better as time went by.
He explained: “I got knocked out in the 10th minute of my first game – that was a fun one!
“But then beating Rosslyn Park the first time at Old Bath Road, and Cambridge this season with Birdy scoring right at the end was sensational.”
Ollie, who has 15 tries to his name including a best-yet six in the current campaign, has been on the winning side in 71 of his appearances to date, and added in the long-term he wants to match the exploits of this season’s double-centurions captain Robbie Stapley and club legend Stevie Bryant.
He added: “The goal is to do that, but we’ll take it season by season and see how many I can get.”
With old rivals Cinderford the opposition for the last game of the season – one which has attracted a record-breaking 192 lunch attendees and a possible highest ever crowd – Ollie concluded by firstly speaking about the Forest of Dean men and then the wonderful support Rams have enjoyed.
He ended: “Cinderford always bring it physically and normally it’s a tight game, so we’re going to have to step up.
“But they’re also a good bunch which makes it a nice fixture.
“It would be nice to have a good send-off with the last home game of the season, and I didn’t realise there were that many for lunch!
“It will be brilliant, help to create an atmosphere and the way the supporters came to Sale, they’ve just been fantastic throughout the season so thank you so much to all of them.”
