NEW COACH JOE EXCITED TO BE GIVEN OPPORTUNITY

NEW COACH JOE EXCITED TO BE GIVEN OPPORTUNITY

Rich Ashton28 Jul 2022 - 15:00

New man in charge for Centaurs and Dragon's Teeth!

NEW Centaurs and Dragon’s Teeth coach Joe Whatmore is looking forward to an exciting season as he takes the reins ahead of the new campaign.

Having been involved as a matchday assistant for both the first team and Titans last season, former Southampton and Oxford Brookes University coach Joe is relishing his new role.

He explained: “Seb was happy to give me the chance and we both thought the Centaurs is the perfect opportunity, so I’m really excited.

“I like the game to be fast and aggressive, to try and beat opponents with speed.

“It will be interesting with different ages – obviously at University you’re dealing with students, whereas here you’ve got lads coming into adult rugby from the Colts and then older guys who are in their mid-40s, so I’ll be coaching some people who are much older than me.”

With the Centaurs finishing fourth and the DTs fifth last time out, a league restructure now sees them playing in Counties Two Tribute Berks, Bucks & Oxon South Division, and Three respectively, and Joe said: “I’m hoping for a really exciting season.

“Finishing fourth last season, there’s definitely an opportunity to progress from that and look towards the top-of-the-table.

“There are teams who came above us last season who I think we can compete with and when you look at some of the losses last year, they were only by a couple of points.”

Rams are always on the look-out for new recruits to social rugby and Joe ended: “I’d just say come and get involved – we’ve already had about five or six new players from the Colts, another five who’ve messaged about wanting to get back in touch with rugby, so anyone who is keen – whatever your ability – come and be a part.”

Training usually takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays. For more information, contact manager Marcus Noye on 07810 438040 or via email at marcusnoye2038@gmail.com
