NATIONAL ONE ROUND-UP - WEEK 16

Rich Ashton21 Jan - 12:30

Richmond, Roth, Park, Club, Albion and Sedgley take the spoils!

LEADERS Richmond overturned a half-time deficit to beat visitors Esher 40-22 under the Friday Night Lights.

Tries from Luc Jones and James Langston, the latter converted by Callum Grieve, gave the hosts early control, only for the Eees to score 15 unanswered points before the break, James Botterill and Matt Woollard crossing the whitewash as Sam Morley added a conversion and penalty.

However, Grieve was on target after Alex O’Meara, Josh Addams and George Nugent dotted down, Morley converting his own score to give Esher hope before Alex Schwarz went over at the death.

Third-placed Rotherham Titans also needed a strong second half as they battled past Sale FC 23-17 at Clifton Lane.

The hosts fell behind to a James Robins penalty before JB Bruzulier got the high-fliers off the mark, Lloyd Hayes with the extras.

Robins landed after Mark Dixon crossed, Hayes levelling with a penalty, but a converted second from Dixon made it 17-10 at the break.

Yet tries from Charlie Capps and James Cooke, along with a second Hayes three-pointer, kept Titans in the thick of the title race.

Rosslyn Park made it four wins on the spin with a 49-24 home triumph against Darlington Mowden Park.

The Londoners flew out the blocks as Steffan James converted a Sam Kennaugh try and one of his own, the visitors cutting the gap before the break as Ben Douglas and Ewan Greenlaw crossed, Harry Read adding to the second.

Rosslyn regained control as Josh Bragman slotted following scores from Ehize Ehizode and Benji Marfo, Mowden reducing the arrears to 28-19 as Read was on target after Jacob Oliver’s effort.

Bragman maintained his fine form following Kennaugh’s second and one from Jacob Glover, and despite DMP grabbing a try-bonus via Luckas Sableman-Blue, Isaac Miller’s converted score completed matters for the hosts.

A brilliant second half helped Blackheath return to winning ways with a 51-26 success against away side Birmingham Moseley.

A Billy Harding try and Tom Ffitch penalty nudged Club 8-0 up before Ollie Stedman barged over for Moseley, Morgan Adderley-Jones also on the scoresheet as Jack Jolly converted both for 14-8.

Noah Sloot’s five-pointer reduced the arrears before Jolly added to his own try, Ffitch on target after Harding’s second for 20-21 at the interval.

Blackheath took complete control with a stunning third-quarter in which Ffitch converted scores from Jake Hennessey, Andrew Boye and Jake Lloyd, the fly-half then slotting a penalty before again bisecting the uprights after Jordan Burns crossed.

Morgan Dawes snatched a bonus for Birmingham late on.

Plymouth Albion were the fourth side in the top six to secure a second-half comeback home victory after beating Bishop’s Stortford 24-21.

A Chris Smith try put the away side in front before Tom Putt converted Craig Duncan’s score for Albi.

Alex Gilham crossed to put Stortford ahead, Tom Mills with the extras, but Putt slotted after Rhys Williams went over for 14-12.

Two Mills penalties gave Bishop’s a four-point half-time lead, and another early in the second period pushed them further in front.

However, a second for Williams and a 70th-minute Harry Wilkinson five-pointer ensured Plymouth took the spoils.

Sedgley Park ensured every home team triumphed and boosted their survival hopes with a 25-10 win against Leicester Lions.

Tigers took the lead as Warren Seals converted a Ben Douglas try before landing a penalty, Leicester cutting the gap as Ollie Taylor touched down.

Seals was on target after Bertie Bradshaw crossed shortly after the break, Toby Cousins quickly over for Lions, but another Seals penalty and a Matt Law try completed the win for Sedge.

Rams remain a point behind Richmond following their 26-17 victory against Dings Crusaders.
