SALE FC moved joint top of the National One table with a hard-fought 24-15 bonus-point triumph at home to fourth-placed Rosslyn Park.
The Dogs enter the halfway point of the season with a seven-match winning streak, although they did fall behind when Park’s Sam Garvey crossed at the back of a maul.
However, playing at Carrington rather than their usual Heywood Road surroundings, Sale hit back with two tries via the same means from Josh Brown and flanker Seb Cecil, James Robins converting both before Craig Holland kicked a penalty to make it 14-8 at the interval.
A stunning Fergus Mulchrone try pushed the hosts further ahead, only for Charlie Piper to ride a maul over the line for Holland to slot the kick for 19-15.
A third try in quick succession came from Sale’s Tumy Onayansa, and that would prove the last score of the day as his side moved level with RAMS on 57 points from their opening 13 games.
Birmingham Moseley picked up a first away win of the campaign and extended Taunton Titans’ miserable home record to six straight losses with a 26-21 triumph.
Tries from Aquile Smith and Sam McNulty, the second added to by Dan Lewis, gave Mose a 12-0 lead before Taunton got on the board through Sam Prior.
Jordan Gott added the extras for Titans, but a second converted McNulty try had Birmingham 19-7 in front at the interval.
The hosts drew first blood in the second period as skipper Charlie Wright touched down for Gott to convert, but debutant Freddie Painter then darted over for Mose and Lewis made no mistake.
A third converted Taunton try – this time from Connor Banks – drew his side within range on 63 minutes, but they could not add to it as Birmingham held on.
Esher’s recent resurgence continued with a dramatic 18-17 home success against Darlington Mowden Park.
An early Sam Morley penalty gave the Eees the lead, but DMP hit back as Matt Minogue converted Harry Hadfield’s try.
The Australian’s penalty extended the lead, but Esher hit back on the stroke of half-time as Morley added the extras to a Pierre Thompson score.
Jack Walsh’s try at the start of the final quarter nudged the hosts back in front, only for Minogue to make no mistake after Callum Mackenzie crossed.
However, Morley landed a 74th-minute penalty which won the game by the smallest of margins and made it three wins in four for Esher.
Elsewhere the games between Cambridge and Hull, Chinnor and Bishop’s Stortford, and Plymouth Albion and Leeds Tykes, were all postponed due to frozen pitches.
RAMS, meanwhile, lost for the second successive week, going down 37-17 at Cinderford.
