NATIONAL ONE ROUND-UP – WEEK EIGHT

PLYMOUTH Albion are the only unbeaten side in National One following their 54-40 triumph at Bishop’s Stortford.

The table-toppers surged into a 28-0 lead inside 18 minutes as Iwan Jenkins converted tried from Huw Taylor, Dan Pullinger, Jake Clemson and Harry Wilkinson.

A Joe Plunkett double, the second added to by Theo Mannion, got Stortford on the board.

But an Archie Hill seven-pointer made it 35-12 to Albi at half time.

The hosts cut the gap with converted tries from Tom Hitchcock and Mannion, only for Frankie Dart to supplement a Sam Daly effort.

Jenkins slotted after Rhys Williams went over for 49-26, only for Mannion to land after Hitchcock and James Apperley dotted down.

Plymouth, though, had the final word as Wilkinson took them past the half century.

Moseley shock TJs

Second-placed Tonbridge Juddians lost for the first time this term as a poor start proved costly at Birmingham Moseley.

Ben Pogson bagged an early brace and Morgan Dawes also crossed as the Midlanders went 21-0 up in 16 minutes, Harry Read with a trio of conversions.

Sam Morton-Smith and Harrison Sims put TJs back in the contest, Connor Lloyd on target after the latter.

A Harry Ingram seven-pointer pushed Mose 28-12 up at the interval, but the visitors gave themselves hope of another late escape.

Oscar Waite and Lloyd both went over in the final 10 minutes, Lloyd with two more conversions.

But Birmingham held their nerve and Read slotted after a 79th-minute Fred Ma’a effort to seal the deal.

Camborne continue super start, Sale too strong for Sheffield

Camborne recorded a fifth away win from five with a 57-38 success at Dings Crusaders.

The Cornishmen look a serious title threat and took the lead when Fraser Honey converted a Joel Matavesi try.

Dings levelled immediately through Will Hendy and Louie Sinclair, but Herbie Stupple nudged Town back in front.

The other Matavesi brothers, Sam and Josh, then added crossed, another Honey kick making it 24-7.

Hendy doubled his tally before Camborne struck just before the break, Dan Roderick with a seven-pointer.

Ollie Roberts, Jago Sheppard and the boot of Honey extended the lead to 43-12 eight minutes into the second period.

But Crusaders hit back as Sol Taufa and Freddie Cartwright crossed, Sinclair adding to the second.

Sheppard doubled up before Hendy completed his hat-trick, both kicks good, before the sides shared two more seven-pointers.

Sam Matavesi was the Camborne scorer before Hendy collected his fourth for Crusaders.

Sale snapped their two-match losing streak with a convincing 49-19 home win against Sheffield.

James Mitchell converted tries from Jos Gilmore and Mark Dixon to put the Dogs 14-0 in front.

But Jack Delaney added to Callum Posa’s try before Josh Kent crossed for 14-12.

Sale’s Osian Roberts and Christian Hooper then shared seven-pointers before Mitchell added to a Corbin Thunder try.

And the hosts pulled clear after the break, Alfie Longstaff bagging a hat-trick as Mitchell maintained his 100 per cent record.

Park and Scottish into top half

Rosslyn Park are up to sixth following a 42-14 triumph at Bury St Edmunds.

The Londoners led 21-0 at half time as Rory Jennings converted tries from Charlie Coe (two) and Jake Cleet.

Jennings kept up his perfect record after Conor Byrne secured the bonus-point.

Ben Penfold added to a Matt Hicks try as BSE got off the mark, but Jennings again landed following Ewan Fenley’s try.

Clark McFarlane went over for the hosts, Penfold on target, but Park had the final word thanks to Fenley and Jennings.

London Scottish’s third win on the spin took them into the top half, Exiles downing bottom side Cambridge 47-22.

An Alex Earnshaw try put Scottish in front before Luke Bouchier kicked a penalty for the hosts.

But Matt Gribbon and Joe Harmen dotted down for Exiles, Will Butler with a brace of conversions for 19-3.

Bouchier landed after Josh Carr touched down to cut the gap for Cambridge on the stroke of half time.

Butler, however, converted two Harry Clayton tries and one from Will Rigelsford as Scottish marched into a 40-10 lead.

Jake McCay hit back for the Blood and Sand on 72 minutes, Bouchier with the extras.

Karl Main and Butler replied for Exiles, although Cambridge picked up a try bonus when Max Hubbard crossed in the penultimate minute.

Rams picked up two bonus-points from a 36-33 home defeat to Leeds Tykes.
