MATCH REPORT: RAMS ENDURE MORE MOSELEY MISERY

RAMS’ away-day hoodoo at Birmingham Moseley continued as the hosts claimed a 35-14 National One success.

It was a fourth straight reverse at Billesley Common for the Berkshire Boys.

Yet the visitors actually started very well, the scrum on top and the three-quarters in particular looking lively.

And after Moseley second row Callum Allen was sin-binned for a cynical penalty in his own 22, Rams hit the front.

Some slick hands sent Ellis Jones over on the left before Ross McKay landed a fine conversion.

But after James Baker was forced off injured, Birmingham replied swiftly.

A scrum free-kick was booted high into the sun-kissed sky and after Rams failed to claim it, Moseley went through the phases from the 22.

And eventually hooker Ben Pogson dived under the posts for a score added to by Jake Conliffe.

The fly-half missed a long-range penalty before Rams almost struck from distance, Mikey Duda with a break before Oli Sedgwick was stopped on the right.

Hosts ahead at half-time

The visitors also had a trio of close-range line-outs which they failed to make pay.

And they fell behind with the final play of the opening period, Nathan Decalmer with a somewhat fortuitous try.

The wing chipped ahead before hacking the bouncing ball further ahead, winning the foot race to dot down.

Conliffe was on target for 14-7 at the break.

The hosts could have extended their lead midway through the third quarter, only to be held up over the line.

And Rams then levelled with a smart counter-attack.

They won a turnover on halfway before Axel Kalling-Smith went down the left before sending Matt Wickham in for a seven-pointer.

Yet the visitors again shot themselves in the foot, conceding a scrum penalty on halfway.

And while they repelled a close-range maul, prop Ethan Priest eventually burrowed over before Zac Jones added the extras.

The game was still in the balance going into the final eight minutes, only for Rams to lose another line-out.

And from halfway, a strong Morgan Dawes carry preceded Nick Bingham going under the uprights.

Max Marshall was also yellow carded for a high shot in the build-up.

And after Jones slotted, Moseley rubbed salt into the wounds with a Jayden Wrottersley seven-pointer wide left before the final whistle was blown.
