Despite losing Dan Brough to a second-minute yellow card for taking Zach Clow in the air, the visitors hit the front with a Sam McNulty maul try added to by Tight Maxwell-Whiteley.
Rams responded swiftly, though, Morgan MacRae making a searing break before he sent Luke Graham over for a 40-metre run-in on the right.
Mike Cooke added the extras and repeated the trick after Clow’s cross-field kick was collected by Charlie Robson, the wing showing sublime speed and footwork to finish beautifully.
Birmingham’s troubles deepened as skipper Ollie Stedman was sin-binned for a stamp, Rams moving further clear as MacRae again blasted through in midfield, his superb off-load allowing Axel Kalling-Smith to send Graham over for his second.
Birmingham respond after interval
A stop-start second quarter preceded a fast start after the break from Moseley, Morgan Dawes powering over following a series of pick-and-goes.
Rams shot themselves in the foot soon after, Louis Pereira yellow carded for a deliberate knock-on, and after Birmingham kicked to the corner, Stedman rode over another powerful maul.
Maxwell-Whiteley slotted the conversion to level the scores, but man-of-the-match Cooke landed a simple penalty to settle home nerves.
Rams began to turn up the heat and dominated territory at the start of the final quarter, keeping the pressure on with phase after phase, and penalty after penalty, near their opponents’ line.
Eventually the visitors’ defence was breached by Max Hayman for a 73rd-minute score, Cooke with the conversion.
Birmingham rallied, again, though but Will Safe’s final-play seven-pointer proved merely a consolation for Birmingham.
Rams remain fifth in the table ahead of a trip to Clifton next Saturday (3pm).
