DIRECTOR of Rugby Seb Reynolds is thrilled to be back at Old Bath Road as Sedgley Park visit tomorrow (3pm).
Rams enjoyed a perfect opening block of the National One season with eight wins from eight, and Seb is hoping his side can continue building momentum.
He started: “It was nice to have the week off although you always miss rugby.
“Fortunately we’ve had the Wednesday night games for our Development side and they’ve been incredible to watch, the way the side has come together is brilliant.
“I heard someone say eight games is a lot and there should be a break before, but players used to do 16 before Christmas – I didn’t – but it was a good block and when the guys came back on Tuesday they were in great spirits.”
Turning his attentions to Sedgley, who have won two of their eight fixtures so far, the head coach continued: “They’ve been in every game they’ve played, stuck plenty of points on Esher and Plymouth, and they’re a quality side.
“They play good rugby – a slightly different style which is pretty unique to the level – and we’ve got to watch out for that.”
Rams make five changes to the starting line-up with Paddy Harris and Ryan Lomas replacing Ant Marris and James Baker at prop, with scrum-half Ollie Cole, Swedish skipper Axel Kalling-Smith and fit-again Luke Graham coming into the three-quarters.
The latter’s fellow Bath loanee, Ioan Emanuel, joins Baker on the bench and Seb explained: “We’re blessed with fantastic props and Paddy has been superb this season, having one of his best runs for us.
“It’s also great to bring Ioan back on the bench – he’s been great around the group.
“Ollie was full of beans on Tuesday night and you can tell he’s back to his best – he’s having a good season and when he came into the side at Dings he box-kicked well, his all-round game has been good and you can sense a hunger and calm around him.
“His play against Plymouth was also crucial to getting the win, while any side would love to have Axel back and we’re delighted to be able to.
“I congratulate him on captaining his country and getting a couple of good wins – they’re top of their league which is fantastic – but we’re happy to see him again.”
And following three weeks without first-team action at home, Seb is hoping for a top atmosphere as he ended: “We absolutely love being at Old Bath Road. We’ve had the break and now two home games in a row, so hopefully tomorrow will be a big day.”
