Director of Rugby looks ahead to early-season top-of-the-table clash!

SEB Reynolds is expecting a ‘terrific battle’ when Rams face Sale at Old Bath Road tomorrow (3pm).

The two sides head the nascent National One table and are the only ones to have taken a maximum 10 points from their opening two games.

The pair have also served up some cracking contests over the years, albeit The Dogs have had the better of things in recent times.

Seb said: “This is always a great encounter because they’re a very strong side who’ve also had a good start to the season, so it will be an interesting game.

“Their defence looks as strong as ever and they’ve had that for many years, so it’ll be a terrific battle.”

Rams make four changes to the side which won at Esher last time out, Liam Bishop coming in for a starting debut at prop, Dan Swain back in the second row, fit-again Rowan Grundy returning in midfield and Luke Graham stepping off the bench to go from the off on the wing.

Among the replacements, James Baker has overcome the illness which ruled him out of making a record-extending 418th first-team league appearance in Surrey, while scrum-half Ollie Cole gets his first chance of the season.

Commenting on the changes, the Director of Rugby revealed: “I’d like to give a special mention to Liam because after a tough first year at the club, he’s been brilliant.

“I’ve been so impressed by the way he’s dealt with everything – injury and things which have gone on in his personal life, to come back from that and have the pre-season he has is incredible.

“He’s been knocking on the door and now he’s got the opportunity – we’re really excited for him.

“It’s also great to have Dan back – he’s always raring to go and I know he’s looking forward to it.”

With 120 guests set for lunch a big crowd is anticipated, and Seb ended by stating: “The noise during the Darlington Mowden Park game a fortnight ago was fantastic along with the travelling support at Esher – we look forward to more of the same and want to get Old Bath especially lively.”
