MAN-OF-THE-MOMENT Jak Rossiter admitted his teammates are to thank following his four-try haul in Saturday’s 59-26 home victory against Hull.
The wing – who grabbed a brace for the Titans on the opening day of the season before following up with a double on his recall to the first team at Chinnor – is now the joint top try scorer in National One with six tries to his name, tied with Plymouth Albion wing Alex Ducker.
And while his hot streak has also taken his Rams tally to 64, Jak admitted: “It’s nice, although I can’t take any credit for them really. The guys are playing so well, moving the ball nicely and playing some exciting rugby – I just need to be in the right place at the right time.
“(As a back three) the other two were on fire and no-one seems able to stop them. Charlie can hit a line from nowhere and Axel’s an absolute battering ram, so it’s great and the younger lads are keeping us older ones well and truly on our toes.”
It was Jak who opened the scoring before Hull hit back through a converted Tomasi Tanumi score, only for the hosts to turn on the style with Charlie Robson, Ollie Cole, Axel Kalling-Smith, Drew Humberstone and Rossiter himself, twice and completing his hat-trick, to go over in building up a 45-7 lead.
Will Hall crossed for the visitors before Robson and Rossiter both went over for scores converted by Humberstone, two late Hull tries leaving the wing with slightly mixed emotions despite a record Rams score in National One.
Jak explained: “Things clicked, we kept the ball in hand – which is something we’ve been looking at the past couple of weeks – and it’s really good it came off and worked so well.
“But we’re still frustrated with ourselves the way we finished – we didn’t do that the way we wanted to.
“It maybe shows the hunger of the squad this year that it’s our mentality and we are always looking to improve (even with a big win).”
