FLY-HALF FRASER CAN'T WAIT FOR FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

FLY-HALF FRASER CAN'T WAIT FOR FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

Summer signing admits life at Rams 'better than I could have imagined!'

FLY-HALF Fraser Honey cannot wait for Friday’s floodlit derby with Chinnor as the two old foes lock horns at Old Bath Road.

The Cornwall captain made a fine start to National One life at Rams as he had the back-line going and landed five conversions from seven attempts in the come-from-behind 50-36 victory against Birmingham Moseley on Saturday, and said he has been blown away by what he’s seen since joining in the summer.

He explained: “It’s been better than I could have imagined and just perfect for what I’m looking for – I’m absolutely loving it.

“The transition has been awesome, the lads, the environment, backroom staff, everyone’s just fantastic and so welcoming.

“Chinnor are a great side and derby games bring physicality, heaps of emotion, but I love it and also the Friday Night Lights, it’s not often you get that so I’m looking forward to it.

“I’ve heard the crowds have been getting bigger here the past couple of years, and while I’m used to it from Redruth, Saturday was the same – the support was fantastic, the atmosphere was electric and it was even better to get the win.”

Looking back at his debut, Fraser continued: “It was a good game and a great start in the end. The first 20 minutes was a bit shaky, we were maybe surprised with what Birmingham came at us with, but once we got settled and tightened up our defensive stuff, we came alive.

“I was pleased with how I went although annoyed with missing the two conversions – I’d expect myself to get those – but to get 10 points on the board was nice.”

Fraser’s third conversion, from the right-hand touchline in front of clubhouse corner following Henry Bird’s try, was a particular highlight and he concluded: “From a mentality point of view, I felt if we could go in just one point down at half-time, although we were trailing, it would be a mental shift and we were on top.

“It was good to get it over in front of the crowd, get them roaring in my first league game at Old Bath Road.”
