COLTS scrum-half Aidan Pugh was part of an England Under 17 training camp at St George’s Park earlier this month, as he looks to claim a first international cap.
The livewire No. 9 was among 60 players from which a squad to tour South Africa in the summer will be chosen later this year.
Piggott School student Aidan, who has represented Bishop’s Wand AASE this season, has been at Rams since Minis and is also an England Academy Player.
Former Mini Vicky Laflin has received her maiden call-up to the England Women’s squad for the Six Nations.
Vicky started her rugby career at Rams as a six-year-old and stayed for many years until switching to Reading to play for their girls’ side when she was no longer allowed to play with the boys!
She went onto represent Worcester Warriors and now Trailfinders Women in the Premier 15s competition, and now has a first Red Roses call.
Finally, George Makepeace-Cubitt again came off the bench to star for England Under 20s as they closed on a Six Nations triumph with a 32-32 draw at home to Ireland.
While the hosts could have wrapped up the title on Friday night – Ireland snatched the draw with the final play of the game – George produced a classy display which featured two lovely assists; firstly his sublime cross-field kick was collected by Oli Spencer for a try, and then a beautifully weighted pass sent Ben Waghorn over on the left for what looked like being the winning score.
A bonus-point England win in France this Friday will still guarantee the championship for George and his teammates.
*Congratulations to Aidan, Vicky and George on your achievements!
