CAPTAIN fantastic Jack Gaylor was named Centaurs’ Players’ Player of the Year after leading his side to a phenomenal title-winning campaign.
The former Mini, who returned to the club from Windsor a few years ago, was superb throughout the season and ended as the club’s top points-scorer in senior rugby.
For the Mighty Cents alone he racked up 157 courtesy of two tries, 63 conversions and seven penalties, while also adding a few more on occasional experiences for the Dragon’s Teeth.
The fly-half opened his account with three conversions and a penalty in the 29-15 opening-day triumph at Maidenhead 3rd XV, adding the extras twice more as the eventual Berks, Bucks & Oxon Two South champions beat Reading 2nd XV 29-5 in their home derby.
Skipper Jack missed Centaurs’ sole defeat of the campaign having rolled his ankle against Reading as they went down 36-22 at Slough but returned with a trio of conversions to help the hosts beat Newbury 2nd XV 26-12 in Week Five.
One of the standout performances of the season came next time out as the Mighty Cents won 61-3 at previously unbeaten Abingdon, Gaylor contributing 21 points including his first try.
There were 15 more as the visitors won 60-0 at Beaconsfield 2nd XV, Jack then kicking three penalties and a conversion after coming off the bench in the 33-7 Friday Night Lights triumph against Henley 3rd XV.
A seventh straight win arrived in a 35-14 victory against Hungerford, Gaylor with four more conversions, and he knocked over another six as the Cents triumphed 57-21 at Newbury in their first game of 2023.
Jack added the extras eight times as Rams won 76-0 at Reading, and he moved past 100 points with a haul of 13 in a 53-7 victory at Henley.
The Cents moved to the brink of the title with a 59-0 victory at Tadley in which Jack touched down while chipping in with 19 points, and the championship was secured as he landed four conversions and a penalty in a brilliant 36-3 success at Hungerford.
Jack completed a super season with six conversions from seven attempts in the 47-24 home win against Abingdon – an 18th consecutive triumph for the title winners.
