Rich Ashton18 Mar 2023 - 16:45

Get to know a bit more about our Podcast producer and videographer!

Year joined: 2011 as an Under 13

Role: Former junior, current videographer, and Podcast producer.

Best rugby memories: Playing in the Berkshire Under 20s final with the likes of Max Hayman, Paul Englezos and Ollie Cole – they were better than me, but I still wore the shirt!
Winning Young Player of the Year in 2017.

The posts collapsing during the warm-up for a junior away game.

Off-field, watching the National Three South West title-winning game when I was a kid against Exmouth was special.

Worst rugby memories: Accidentally punching my hand through a physio bed during a half-time team talk for the Colts and getting hammered something like 60-3 at Abbey as an Under 13.

Favourite food: Mexican.

Favourite drink: Beer.

Favourite travel destination: Lake District.

Favourite Rams try: Birdy’s second against Rosslyn Park in the 24-21 home win in October 2021, and James Baker’s 70-metre intercept try at Newton Abbot.

Favourite ever try: Karne Hesketh’s winner for Japan against South Africa in the 2015 World Cup – I never thought that would happen!

Favourite ever player(s): Michael Hooper or David Pocock.

Favourite current player: Siya Kolisi.

Other hobbies: Writing and I’ve recently started playing Dungeons and Dragons.

Favourite TV show: Dr. Who or Sherlock.

Favourite musician: Fleetwood Mac.

Favourite song: I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For by U2.

Favourite rugby ground(s): Heywood Road, Sale FC.

Second team: Loosely Saracens as my grandad played for them in the 1960s.

Favourite other sports: None really, maybe running.

One rule change you'd make in rugby: Something to stop the rolling maul ending with so many tries?

Best thing about Rams RFC: The effort put in by so many people throughout the club – the current success across all teams is based on years of hard work.
