NEW SIGNING: JOHNNY IRELAND

RAMS are delighted to welcome open-side flanker Johnny Ireland as the club’s first off-season signing.

The German international follows the same path from Oxford Harlequins as Players’ Player of the Year Willo Bicknell.

Johnny’s rugby career began at Dumpton School as a seven-year-old, before he also joined Bournemouth RFC as a Mini.

Later, while at Canford School, he was picked by Dorset & Wilts at Under 20s (first) and U18s.

Johnny played for Brothers Rugby Club in Brisbane, Australia, during a gap year which was cut short by Covid.

He then joined Oxford Brookes University, along with Quins.

The back row helped them to a Level Six title in 2021/22, before joining London Scottish for 2023/24 after finishing his studies.

Johnny featured in both The Championship and Premiership Cup, while also returning on loan to Quins as they won Regional One Midlands.

He helped them survive their feat campaign in the National Leagues, before earning his first German caps earlier this year.

The 25-year-old played UK Armed Forces last October, later playing internationals against Belgium, Switzerland and Netherlands.
