NATIONAL ONE ROUND-UP – WEEK ONE

ROTHERHAM Titans made a statement start with a 43-28 victory at Sale FC.

The visitors raced into a 29-0 lead inside half-an-hour as Morgan Veness, Jackson Barling, JB Bruzulier and Mitchell Lacey-Babalola crossed and Lloyd Hayes added nine points with the boot.

The Dogs hit back either side of half-time as Will Addison converted tries from Josh Brown, Nathan Langdon and Nev Edwards, only for Hayes to again be on target after Isaac Shaw and John Okafor went over.

Sale snatched a try bonus-point late on as Sean Street dotted down, Addison completing his perfect set from the tee.

London sides in fine form

Last season’s runners-up Rosslyn Park eased past Dings Crusaders 45-10 at The Rock.

Benji Marfo put the hosts in front before Sol Taufa equalised, only for Park to pull clear as Bill Johnston added to scores from Tom Bell and Ewan Fenley.

A Max Rivers five-pointer cut the gap, but Rosslyn led 33-10 at the break after Johnston was again on target following scores from Charlie Walker and Max Fraine, the fly-half again converting after Luke Mehson went over before George Orchard finished the job.

Blackheath won 34-17 at newly-promoted Clifton.

James McKinney added to Zak Hamid’s early score for the hosts, but Club hit the front as Sam Morley and Noah Sloot went over, Ed Dunford with a conversion.

A McKinney penalty cut the gap to two at the break, but Blackheath tries from Tom Emery and Billy Harding, plus five points from Dunford’s boot, gave the Londoners a 27-10 advantage.

A Harry Hone seven-pointer gave Clifton a glimmer of hope, only for it to be snuffed out by Harding’s second and Dunford’s conversion.

Plymouth and TJs enjoy big wins

An early Plymouth Albion barrage saw the visitors blitz hosts Leeds Tykes 45-12.

Archie Hill, Bobby Wigginton, Jack Oulton and Jenson Boughton all had scores added to by Frankie Dart before Tykes got on the board through Lucas Walsh.

But Albion pulled further clear as Ben Moad, Dart and Morgan Stone crossed, Leeds with a late consolation from Will Yates converted by Seramaia Turagabeci.

National Two East champions Tonbridge Juddians flexed their muscles in a 46-14 triumph at Leicester Lions.

Sam Evans converted Lewis Gjaltema’s first-minute try before Leicester levelled through Joe Britton and Luke Bouchier.

A Will Holling score and five more Evans points from the tee pushed the visitors away, but Lions reduced the deficit before the break as Liam Burrows grabbed a converted try.

However, Tonbridge pulled away after the break, Holling, Connor Lloyd, Tom Kendrick and Nathan Earle (two) all over as Evans and Lloyd landed a kick apiece.

Stortford start strong

Birmingham Moseley took the lead as Morgan Dawes crossed, but they lost 26-12 at Bishop’s Stortford.

Alex Rayment and Jake Morris went over before the break to put the hosts 12-5 up, Chris Bolton with a conversion, and the latter duo repeated the trick before Will Rogers sealed the bonus-point.

Moseley picked up a late consolation via a Santiago Edwards seven-pointer.

Rams, meanwhile, snatched a dramatic last-gasp 24-18 victory at Sedgley Park, Zach Clow with the decisive score.
