DEVELOPMENT XV SET FOR CAMBRIDGE EXAMINATION

RAMS Development return to action tomorrow evening as they head to Cambridge University (7.30pm).

The visitors will be looking to back up a solid 24-24 draw against Brunel University last month, as they face Cambridge for a fourth consecutive campaign.

Last year Rams produced a heroic fightback to overturn a 26-5 half-time deficit into a 36-33 triumph.

Following a delayed start due to traffic, they fell 12-0 down before Tomek Pozniak crossed the whitewash.

But two more converted scores had the students in command at the break.

However, Ollie Hodgson dotted down and Pozniak doubled up before James Gilman, Sam Boxhall and Andrew Lamb also went over.

Three Lamb conversions meant 31 unanswered points, and while Cambridge grabbed a late seven-pointer, it was not enough.

On home turf Rams took the spoils 26-10 on a wet night in 2024.

They shipped an early try before Morgan MacRae, Jack Rampton and Ollie Hodgson went over.

Tom Humberstone added two conversions for 19-5 at the break.

And the fly-half added another following Lamb’s score, and while Cambridge grabbed a consolation, it was too little, too late.

Rams were edged out 30-24 in October 2023.

After conceding an early penalty, a sensational length-of-the-field team try was finished by captain Alex Sparkes.

Tries either side of the interval put the students 15-5 up, but Humberstone converted a Henry Lenthall effort to make it a three-point game.

Cambridge crossed again before Charlie Robson scored an unbelievable individual effort.

A second maul effort pushed the hosts 25-17 up before Spencer Hayhow dotted down for Rams, Humberstone on target.

But the University had the final word as Ikechi Mere went over.
